Napiers has been making herbal remedies in Edinburgh since 1860, and this is one of their best-loved body oils. It's built around wild yam root (Dioscorea villosa), a plant with a long history in Western herbal practice, where it has traditionally been used by women through life's natural changes.
A herbalist-strength wild yam root extract is blended with coconut, jojoba and grapeseed oils to create a light, fast-absorbing oil. It leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and comfortable, with no greasy finish. A touch of lemon and petitgrain gives it a fresh, gentle citrus scent.
Skin often becomes drier in midlife, and a daily oil ritual is a lovely way to keep it nourished. This one suits anyone's routine, men included.
How to use
Shake well. Warm a few drops between your palms and massage into clean skin, particularly the abdomen, thighs and arms. Use morning and night.
A ritual from Chinese medicine: stroke the oil over your lower abdomen with a warm palm, in slow clockwise circles around the navel. Nine circles, three slow breaths. It's a small, grounding moment to start or end your day.
